Bobby Khan’s Plan to End Wild Horse Roundups in Nevada

For too long, our wild horses, the very symbol of American freedom, have been brutalized, rounded up by helicopters, and shoved into taxpayer-funded holding facilities where they rot away, costing us millions.

Year after year, career politicians like Dina Titus make promises to stop it. And year after year, the roundups continue.

That ends when I’m in Congress.

I’m not here to follow party lines. I’m here to do what’s right. I’ll fight both Republicans and Democrats if I have to, because this isn’t a partisan issue. It’s a moral one.

Why the Wild Horse Roundups Must Stop

  • Cruel & Inhumane: Helicopter roundups cause panic, injury, and even death to horses and foals. These are violent, outdated tactics that have no place in modern wildlife management.
  • Wasteful Spending: Over $100 million of your tax dollars are wasted every year on rounding up, housing, and feeding wild horses in captivity, when better alternatives exist.
  • Broken Promises: The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has failed to implement humane and effective population management strategies, despite decades of public pressure.
  • Ecosystem Disruption: Roundups throw off the balance of native grazing patterns, harming not just the horses, but the land and other species too.

My 5-Point Plan to End the Roundups

  1. End Helicopter Roundups Immediately Introduce legislation to ban the use of helicopters and aggressive roundup methods. We must modernize how we manage wild herds with science and compassion, not brutality.
  2. Audit the BLM’s Wild Horse Program Demand full transparency and fiscal accountability. We need to know where the money’s going, who’s profiting from these roundups, and why proven alternatives aren’t being used.
  3. Use Humane Fertility Control Solutions Advocate for funding and deployment of safe, science-based fertility control like PZP vaccines to stabilize herd populations without removing animals from the wild.
  4. Reintroduce Horses to Public Lands Push for the strategic release of healthy, captive wild horses back onto designated public ranges that can sustain them. It’s time to return these horses to the wild.
  5. Support Non-Profit Partnerships Empower sanctuaries, tribal coalitions, and conservation groups with funding and legal support to implement sustainable herd management with dignity and care.

The Bottom Line

“I’m not voting with my party on this. I’m voting with my gut, and my gut says stop the cruelty, stop the waste, and protect what makes Nevada wild and free.”

This isn’t about politics, it’s about principle. It’s about standing up for those who can’t speak for themselves. As your representative, I’ll fight like hell to make sure our wild horses are protected, not persecuted.
